Those accused of witchcraft in Connecticut were entirely innocent, and they deserve to be remembered that way.

Winifred Benham my 9th great Grandmother was an innocent women, not a witch. I look forward to a local exhibit that would tell her story and the stories of the other innocent victims. A memorial for these victims should be a priority to the community.

Witch hunts were never right. It was a way of removing those who may have been different or less religious for events that would happen naturally. When governments are ruled by a theocracy the marginal are the oppressed. and in many cases the victims are women. After 376 the State of Connecticut made amends for the errors of the colonial Connecticut Colony and others. Today, their souls can rest in peace.

Lydia Gilbert ,who was hung as a witch, was my 9th generation grandmother. She was an innocent woman who did not deserve the horrendous treatment she received before her handing !!!

Grandma Barnes, I only learned of our connection a week ago. Today I learned that Rebecca Greensmith was also family. From the moment you were jailed, until you were forced to watch the hanging of Nathaniel and Rebecca, was both cruel and unusual. I hope you died instantly. You will live on in my memory, and my descendants. YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN.

DNA links me to both Mary Barnes and Rebecca Greensmith, a double whammy.
